Get SEXD – Sleep, Exercise, Diet
3 Tips for Healthy Living
When you want to live a healthier life, here are three crucial areas to incorporate.
Many adults do not get adequate sleep, which can lead to weight gain, irritability, lack of focus, decreased energy and a weakened immune system. I used to brag about the fact that I only needed 6 hours of sleep. Yet getting adequate sleep in a quiet, darkened room allows the body to rejuvenate itself and is very important to maintaining good health. https://sleep.org/articles/sleep-hygiene/
While this may not be your favorite thing to do, there are so many ways to get the body moving. Whether increasing your walking, dancing to your favorite music, cleaning house, gardening, going to the gym, taking a class, or shoveling snow, there are many activities to choose from each day. Sex is also a productive aerobic activity that burns calories, induces sleep, increases energy, provides some emotional support and gets your creativity going. What doesn’t work for the body is being sedentary for extended periods of time. Let’s Move, an emphasis of First Lady Michelle Obama, is crucial to a healthy life style. According to the World Health Organization, by exercising for just 30 minutes a day, five days a week, people can prevent pre-diabetes from becoming type 2 diabetes. If a person already has type 2 diabetes, the same amount of exercise can help them minimize health risks and improve control of their condition. “Sedentary Lifestyle: A Global Public Health Problem.” Move For Health. As we mature in age, it is important to do cardio, strengthening, and stretching exercises. For accountability, I recommend investing in one of the devices that tracks your activity and sleep, like MisFit, www.misfit.com or the Fitbit www.fitbit.com. Link your activity tracker with an application like My Fitness Pal, www.myfitnesspal.com. If you don’t use it, you will lose it!
“You are what you eat.” Yes, food shows on your body and affects your mood and thinking as well. Increasing the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables and eliminating sugar (oh no) are some basic steps to experiencing better health. Sugar is like Velcro. When you eat sugary foods, the “muffin top” or “ Esther” as Wanda Sykes, calls it, become visible. The buttocks, hips and back fat, start taking over. Soon, your body looks like it belongs to someone else. For anyone wanting to lose weight, sugar is bad news. In fact, sugar is toxic. You don’t want to overindulge. http://authoritynutrition.com/4-ways-sugar-makes-you-fat/ Sugar affects your body and face. Yet, knowing something isn’t what makes you alter your way of doing things. First, you must have an intention that is so powerful that it guides your actions. You may have to write your intention down and place it where you can see it, so you don’t forget. For me, that intention is being able to play and move with my grandchildren. I place a high value on that. And although I have a serious sweet tooth, for the privilege of keeping up with the grands, SEXD has become my priority! What is your intention?
